C-47 Skytrain Berlin Airlift

Douglas C-47 Skytrain (z ang. "powietrzny pociąg") nazywany również Dakota (DACoTA, czyli Douglas Aircraft Company Transport Aircraft) to jeden z najpopularniejszych samolotów transportowych z okresu II wojny światowej. Produkowany przez USA był używany także przez armie innych krajów alianckich. Był oparty na projekcie cywilnej wersji Douglas DC-3. Występował w zasadzie na wszystkich frontach II wojny światowej i był eksploatowany długo po jej zakończeniu. Służył między innymi do desantu spadochroniarzy i holowania szybowców a także do transportu zaopatrzenia, amunicji oraz do ewakuacji rannych.

W początkowej fazie blokady Berlina Zachodniego (1948 1949) ciężar utrzymania mostu powietrznego spoczywał na samolocie Douglas C-47 Skytrain (Dakota). Później był stopniowo uzupełniany i zastępowany przez maszyny Douglas C-54 Skymaster i Avro York oraz brytyjskie łodzie latające Short Sunderland.
