  • Myśliwiec Pokładowy Marynarki Wzór 0 nie miał oficjalnej nazwy.
  • Liczba 0 oznacza końcówkę roku 2600 wg kalendarza japońskiego, w którym samolot zaprojektowano.
  • Stąd też swój początek wzięło popularne określenie Zero wymyślone przez Brytyjczyków.
  • Samolot zaprojektował inżynier Jir Horikoshi w roku 1940 na zamówienie Cesarskiej Japońskiej Marynarki Wojennej.
  • Model w trakcie wojny był cały czas modyfikowany.
  • Maszyna charakteryzowała się dużą szybkością i zwrotnością.
  • Cechy te osiągnięto m.in. kosztem opancerzenia oraz samouszczelniającyh się zbiorników paliwa.
