1.0-type Exmor R® CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 20 megapixels. The sensor, which is even larger than the Super 16mm film frame, delivers high resolution and superb low-light performance, while giving shooters more control over depth of field. It can record in various formats to support broadcast-quality workflow for documentary and newsgathering applications anywhere a light, highly mobile camera is needed.

Upgrades to 4K recording, and file transfer and streaming by Wi-Fi® are planned to be available.

1.0-inch type Exmor R CMOS Sensor
In order to achieve high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise, and wide dynamic range, the sensor boasts a resolution of 20 megapixels.

High Sensitivity and High Resolution
Thanks to its extraordinary sensor, the PXW-X70 has high sensitivity 1.87 stops brighter than a 1/2.88-inch type sensor, plus higher resolution than any other camcorder in its price range. The 1.0-inch type sensor is brighter and offers more background defocus with a shallow depth of field.

ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T Lens
Ideal for capturing grand landscapes, this fixed 29 mm wide-angle lens also provides up to 12x optical zoom. Its one lens ring enables smooth, natural adjustment of focusing or zooming depending on which mode is selected. The 12x optical zoom can be doubled to 24x with Clear Image Zoom, maintaining full resolution using Super Resolution Technology. Double this range again, up to 48x zoom, with the Digital Extender. Super Resolution Technology is a Sony original intelligent interpolation, which analyzes the input image and increases the resolution of the image.

ND Filter Control Mechanism
The PXW-X70 is equipped with multiple ND (Neutral Density) Filter selections, allowing you to choose four conventional mechanical ND filter positions from 1/4ND, 1/16 to 1/64ND.

Wi-Fi/NFC
Remotely control the PXW-X70 from a smartphone or tablet computer via a Wi-Fi® connection, and transfer recorded video files from camcorder to smartphone in MP4 format.¹ In addition to file transfer, streaming via 4G/ LTE is planned by firmware upgrade in the future.
Wi-Fi operation cannot be guaranteed with all smartphones and tablet computers.

Multi-format Recording
This camcorder's recording capability includes XAVC, AVCHD and DV® file-based recording. When recording in
XAVC, the PXW-X70 uses the MXF file format, efficiently compressing full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution using the
MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 CODEC. Image sampling is 4:2:2 10-bit with high-efficiency Long-GOP compression at 50
Mbps, 35 Mbps or 25 Mbps.

Dual Media Slots
With two memory card slots, the camcorder is compatible with Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark 2), Memory Stick
PRO-HG Duo media, and a class 10+ SDXC memory card is required for recording in XAVC HD LONG. The
two media slots can record in either simultaneous or relay mode.

Slow and Quick Motion
Smooth slow or quick motion with full HD quality is available without any extra processing. You can easily achieve 2.5x slow motion by setting the recording format to 24p and the capturing frame rate to 60 fps. Or set the frame rate to 1 fps for 60x quick motion.

Picture Profile
You can decide the look of movies before shooting by fine-tuning gradation. Adjusted parameters can be saved along with other settings as a profile, and up to seven profiles can be stored for later recall.
