Mit der Konzeption der Modelle ohne internen Akku hat Blackmagic Design auf Benutzer-Feedback reagiert. Diese setzen die Kamera nämlich auch für Liveproduktionen vorrangig mit Netzstrom ein.
Abgesehen davon, dass der große interne Akku die Kameras verteuert, erschwerte er Nutzern zudem den Versand per Luftfracht, wenn anderenorts gedreht werden sollte. Entsprechend vereinfacht die um den internen Akku erleichterte Ausstattung der Kamera ihren Transport an beliebige Orte.

In dem ultrarobusten, leichten Gehäuse aus Magnesiumlegierung verpackt die Blackmagic Studio Camera einen 10-Zoll-Suchermonitor, Talkback, Tally-Anzeigen, phantomgespeiste Mikrofonanschlüsse sowie eingebaute SDI-Anschlüsse.

Der mit 10 Zoll großzügig ausgelegte Suchermonitor der Blackmagic Studio Camera ermöglicht eine sagenhafte Kreativität bei der Bildausschnittswahl und präzise Fokussierung. Die Flüssigkristallanzeige des Suchers ist extrem hell und lässt einen sehr breiten Betrachtungswinkel zu, was beim Einsatz in direktem Sonnenlicht sehr vorteilhaft ist.

Über eine normgerechte XLR-Broadcastbuchse mit 4 Stiften für 12V-Wechselstrom kann die Kamera an AC-Netzstrom oder Fremdhersteller-Akkupacks angeschlossen werden.

Die Blackmagic Studio Cameras verfügen über ein aktives Bajonett für Micro-Four-Thirds-Objektive, womit ihre Kompatibilität mit einem immensen Spektrum an Objektiven und Adaptern gegeben ist. Dies gestattet Nutzern, die Kameras mit hochqualitativen Fotoobjektiven für kleine Setups oder für den Fix-Kameraeinsatz zu verwenden.

Die Camera unterstützt den von Live-Produktionsmischern der ATEM Produktserie verwendeten Tally-SDI-Standard. Sobald eine Kamera auf Sendung ist, leuchten automatisch ihre beiden Tallys auf. Das Tally-Licht an der Vorderseite der Kamera gilt den Darstellern und das Tally über dem Sucher dem Kamerabediener, sodass alle Beteiligten über den On-Air-Status Bescheid wissen.
