When you spend the night in the mountains, the woods, or by a lake, your sleeping comfort depends primarily on insulation from the cold ground—and this is where the Flextail R03 sleeping pad really shines. An R-Value of 3.5 (ASTM F3340-22 test) allows you to sleep comfortably in temperatures around 0°C, limiting heat loss to the ground even on damp or cool surfaces. The chamber design maintains a stable layer of air beneath the body, preventing temperature from “escaping” at pressure points. This is particularly noticeable in the morning, when the ground is coldest and the body is most sensitive to the cold. The mat acts as a thermal barrier, allowing you to rest and recover in the field instead of fighting the cold.

Complete sleeping comfort despite uneven ground

The 7 cm thickness creates a springy air cushion that disperses pressure and evens out minor unevenness in the ground under your shoulder blades, hips, and knees. When you change positions at night, the chambers respond flexibly, stabilizing your body and limiting the effect of sinking into a single point. This allows you to sleep on your side or back without contact with the hard ground—even on rocky or root-covered surfaces. The soft structure also reduces micro-movements caused by muscle tension, which translates to deeper sleep in camping conditions.

Effortless setup and packing

The integrated AVS valve, working in conjunction with the Flextail capsule, automatically inflates and deflates the mat without manual pumping using your mouth or a pump. This prevents moisture from your breath from entering the interior, which in traditional mats promotes dampness and material degradation. The process takes about 90 seconds per mat, and the airtight valve connection eliminates the need to align the ends. In the morning, simply switch the capsule to deflation mode to evenly suck the air out of the entire structure, allowing the mat to roll up flat. This saves time and energy, especially when packing up camp in cold or rainy conditions.

Lightweight gear that doesn’t weigh down your backpack

The Regular Large version offers a full-size sleeping area of 196 × 65 cm while maintaining a low weight (approximately 603 g including the capsule), allowing you to bring a comfortable place to sleep without significantly increasing your backpack’s weight. The slim design when folded (28 × 11 cm) takes up very little space, so it easily fits in the transport compartment next to your sleeping bag or clothing. This is crucial during multi-day treks, when every gram and liter of volume affects your walking pace. Lightweight does not mean compromising on insulation or thickness, so you don’t have to choose between comfort and mobility.

One capsule for the Flextail mattress and pillow

The AVS standard is common to both Flextail mats and pillows, allowing you to use a single air capsule for your entire sleeping setup. When setting up camp, you inflate the mat first, then the pillow—without changing tools or using additional adapters. This simplifies gear organization and reduces the setup sequence to just a few intuitive steps.

Durability and safety confirmed by testing

The cover material undergoes abrasion and puncture resistance tests, and the finished mat is subjected to 48-hour tests for pressure retention, air volume, and temperature stability. The OEKO-TEX® 100 certificate confirms that the fabrics are free of harmful substances, which is important given direct skin contact during sleep.
