In creating the deck, the author went through a transformational process with a group of black women during a retreat, culminating in a photo session of each participant's encounter with the Goddesses. These images of the Goddess have been given an aura of magic and mysticism to inspire and provide images of positivity and change. Giavanni writes, "I created the Black Goddess Within oracle deck to be both a portal to connection with Spirit/God/Universe and a tool to help the reader develop intuition in creating, supporting, and protecting their own self-help practice.
