Since 1779 reached modern-day Mexico, the deck has gone through many beautiful incarnations, and in Latino cultures it has served a multi-layered purpose of practicing Spanish, bringing loved ones together, and of course, trying your luck. However, Loteria Remedios introduces cards into the cartomania canon: it uses traditional symbols for divination, meditation and self-healing. Here, author Xelena González, a member of the Tap Pillar Coahuiltecan Nation, continues the work of her great-grandmother, a curandera in demand and highly respected for her abilities.
