The SR-71 Blackbird was an American reconnaissance aircraft that served in the United States Air Force from the 1960s to the 1990s. Designed by Lockheed Martin, it was one of the fastest aircraft in the world. Its top speed exceeded Mach 3 (over 3,700 km/h), and thanks to its operational altitude of up to 26 km, it was difficult for missile defense systems to shoot down. The SR-71 had an advanced titanium construction, allowing it to withstand the extreme temperatures generated by supersonic flight. It was primarily used for intelligence gathering, and its ability to evade enemy missiles was a legendary asset.
